First of all I want to send out a big thank you to EVERYONE involved with the making of New York! I absolutely loved the film from beginning to end. I know this review is somewhat late but I needed a few days to take in everything. Ok, maybe not that dramatic but this was the first John Abraham movie since Dostana give a girl a day dreaming break. Fortunately for the rest of the movie going world there was way more to the film than that. But first lets talk about my John. Sigh. I am so proud to say that I am his fan. Everything about his acting was beautiful. From acting like the arrogant, perfect at everything, handsome big man on campus, to the tortured victimized jail mate that just broke your heart. Watching him during the torture scenes actually made me hurt. Yes I am biased but I was not the only one sniffing in the audience. A scene that poked at my dil was the one where Sam is stuck in jail and eating his mush. He eats slowly and cries into each bite. You feel it. Then when they shaved his head and he sat in silent pain you want to scream STOP but then remember it is just a movie, and hair grows back. Sam as a terrorist is also not a bad deal. You feel how cold he became due to circumstance and what lead him to become this way. Picking up the pieces of his life and realizing he could not.

Katrina, oh the lovely Katrina. Totally adorable as the character Maya. The cute college girl best friend that falls in love with the jock and ends up with him. Caring mom, loving wife. Actually a lot of depth went on with this character. Neil Nitin Mukesh, equally believable as Omar, the sweet boy from India coming here to study. His crush on Maya was too cute, with a scene where he says he messed up, he did not go save Mayas purse from the robber and hence Sam became the Bollywood hero in her life. Dialogue, A+! An even cuter scene when Omar and John meet for the first time and Omar says sweetly after being hugged by Sam “I have just come”, getting a cheeky reply from Sam “Really after just one hug?” HAHA! LOVE IT!

The story was solid. An interesting look at a topic from a different perspective. Being an Indian girl, college student in the USA right after 9-11 I totally loved watching the film. Moreover it was not taking any sides. The film was a complete depiction of the story of a few kids whose lives were taken away from them because of something bigger than any of us.
