Reshma: How does it feel to have Dostana playing on a big screen once again?
Tarun: Fantastic! I caught the ending scene with John and Abhishek kissing which always makes me laugh. We had a really good audience, I really enjoyed talking with them about the film.
Reshma: So would you say the kissing scene is your favorite then?
Tarun: No I have a ton of favorite scenes! I like the scene with the three of them on the beach before the interval. It shows a moment of bonding that you always want between you and your friends.

Reshma: Where did you find Veer?
Tarun: We held auditions, and this little brat walks in, sits right down and says “where is the script.” He pulled it off instantly. The entire time he was on set all he wanted to do was play Solitaire. When it was time to for his scene he would say “hey don’t touch my game ok” and walk away. He would just switch on and off. It was funny because we would put glycerin in his eyes to make him cry and feel so bad about it but he would just wipe it off and go back to his game.
Reshma: Let’s talk about Dostana 2! Tell me anything I am dying to see it!
Tarun: Hopefully I will have more answers for you in a few more months! Boman, John, and Abhishek are in it for sure.
Reshma: Dostana had a slightly controversial topic, how did you find the line between making it for the masses but also getting your point across?
Tarun: I did not have to too think too much when it came to Dostana. It was a pretty broad line we walked down. Everything was done with a pinch of salt and with humor so it could be more accepted rather than preaching. I look at it as a fun film!
Reshma: Miami was an amazing shooting location, and so different from any other places in other films. Where did the cast and crew like to hang out after shooting?
Tarun: Mangoes was great fun. We actually shot there on my birthday which ended up being an impromptu party. The gym too, because John eventually makes you change your diet. Meetings ended up being in there and we all know why! I don’t know who is still keeping up with it but John now but that was the popular hang out.

Reshma: You and Karan Johar both had successful directorial debuts, how would you describe your relationship?
Tarun: Well we are both brutally honest, which is what works. That is the reason we click so well. We fight and argue if we have a problem and in our arguments there is progress. This is what makes a difference and what makes your work stand out. I have worked with him all my life. He is like an older brother to me at times, a father more often than not. We are friends, there are no boundaries. We can say what we have to.
Reshma: What kind of advice would you give to people who are trying to make it in the industry?
Tarun: Follow your dream, be honest and know your weakness. Knowing this is more important than knowing your strength. Have the kind of relationships with people that will tell you when you are not doing a good job, and most importantly throw your ego out the window.
Reshma: Will Dostana 2 have the same emphasis on friendship?
Tarun: Absolutely! The title alone has gotten a vague synonym of being gay in India now. It is going to be about friendship, relationships and the gay community. Hopefully we can still entertain you as much as the first.
